Swap It Like It’s Hot Reveal

Flea Market Swap Day 3 | Queen of Everything

This was my second time to participate in Swap It Like It’s Hot (if you recall, I built a dang lamp last time!) and I knew I didn’t have the time or inclination to go THAT far again… but I’m still pretty happy with what I ended up with! I received items from Cassie at Primitive & Proper – she threw me for a loop but that’s kind of what this whole thing is about. Links to all of the projects are at the bottom of this post!

Swap Items | Before | Queen of Everything

I opened up the box and saw the 2 candlesticks first. Funny thing – I just purchased 2 eerily similar (just taller) candlesticks from Goodwill a few weeks before! When I get around to working on the taller ones, I’ll have a nice set of 4.

Candlesticks | Swap It Like It's Hot | Queen of Everything

I decided to keep it simple and just paint them with chalk paint… but then I realized that I don’t really use taper candles. I found some cute glass crown tea light holders at a craft store and knew exactly what to do – after the paint dried and I waxed the candlesticks, I attached the crowns with hot glue. Obviously, I love crowns. I’ll get much more use out of these now that I can put votives or tea lights in them!

She's Crafty | Swap It Like It's Hot | Queen of Everything

I’m pretty sure that most people that were alive in the 70’s had this exact same bedsheet growing up. I know I did! I used to hate them – but seeing it again made me realize that maybe my mom was (obviously) way cooler than I thought she was when she bought the sheets for my twin sized bed.

I recently decided that I like to do hand embroidery, and I had a huge piece of fabric just begging for *something* – and my project was born. I hand stitched “She’s Crafty” onto the sheet (shout out Beastie Boys) and fell in love. It needed a little something else, though. What kind of craft project doesn’t involve glitter, I ask? Certainly not one of mine. So yeah, I glittered some petals and leaves. Then I decided to take it one step further and sew some beads onto one of the flowers. I could’ve gone on for days, but I was officially out of time (I am a procrastinator… obviously). I wrapped it around a canvas, stapled the heck out of it, and called it done! It will be perfect hanging in my craft room.

I didn’t end up using the book for anything, but I have 2 little nephews that will love to read it! Thank you so much, Cassie! I had a blast with your items!

I was lucky enough to get to send “junk” to Jaime from That’s My Letter… I’m excited to see what she did with her items!

Be sure to check out all of the other blogs as well – we’re on day 3 of 5! Share, comment, and give some love to my friends! I’ve included all of their blogs below.

Things I Saw That I Loved #6

Things I Saw That I Loved Queen of Everything

First, I need to show all of you what I’m working on. I promise I haven’t just been binge-watching Parenthood (bad idea, don’t try it) or eating Cheetos Puffs.

If you follow me on Instagram, you might remember that waaaaaaaay back in April, I went to Round Top with my friend Lindsay. We saw lots of weird stuff, but also lots of great stuff. Of course I only bought the great stuff (Lindsay was questionable – oh, hey, Lindsay!), but my favorite purchases were two fabric pieces with sayings printed on them. Of course, I can’t leave well enough alone, so I decided one night this week to start embroidering over the letters. Mind you, I’ve never embroidered a thing in my life, so I am totally winging it. I’m also totally rocking it, if I do say so myself. I can even do it while I’m (not) watching Parenthood 6 episodes at a time!

See? I’ve been busy! I bought another one with a different saying on it – I have big plans for that one as well. I’m going through this one pretty quickly, so I might actually have a finished product to show you this week!

Down to business:

Here are some of the Things I Saw That I Loved from this week. I hope you enjoy my favorite picks of this past week, and maybe find some blogs that YOU will love too. Let me know if you find some new blog loves! (PS: I’ve included links back to the original blog posts, and I’ve also pinned them on Pinterest for you so they are easy to find/repin.)

Honeycomb Hexagon Shelves | Boxy Colonial

I’ve featured Boxy Colonial before, because I think she’s awesome. I’m really sad that I missed out on Haven Conference because I would have gotten to meet her! I love the way these shelves turned out, I love the stain she used, and I even love the way her kids are using them. Pretty much love all around. Send me some?

Anthro Inspired Beaded Necklace | Happy Hour Projects

Adrianne over at Happy Hour Projects makes the coolest jewelry – and she makes it look so simple. I love this necklace, and I’m going to attempt it! It will require purchasing a few tools, but I’m not scared – I’ve worked on jewelry for half of my life! I just love the way this turned out.

I Spy DIY Gem Necklace | I Spy DIY

Speaking of jewelry, I’ve had this one saved for a while to share. The first thing I look at when I see people is their jewelry. It’s habit, I know, but that’s one of the side effects of working in a jewelry store for so long! I am loving the big gemstone/druzy trend, and this post from I Spy DIY links to a great website for purchasing them to make your own. I purchased a druzy necklace for myself on our trip to Colorado and it’s one of my favorite pieces!

Herringbone Painting | Ooh I Like That

I received a huge, heavy box of paints from DecoArt last week to try out for them, and I just really couldn’t think of what to do with them. As soon as I saw this, I knew. I love all the colors in this canvas by Ooh I Like That! I’m a little obsessive, though, so mine will most likely not be as “spontaneous” as this one, unfortunately. Maybe I’ll just close my eyes and slap paint on it – knowing me, I would tape off stripes to divide the colors, and that is SO not the point of this project. Anyway, love it!

Rug Bench | Ciburbanity

My friend Charlotte at Ciburbanity has really good taste. As in, I would give her the keys to my house, walk away, and let her redecorate the whole thing (at her expense, of course – I’m generous like that). She finds the BEST deals and turns them into these perfect little things, like this bench of hers that I really, really want. I never would have though to cover the top with a rug!

I hope you liked this batch of awesomeness! Have a great week!

Things I Saw That I Loved #5

Things I Saw That I Loved Queen of Everything

Yeah, so it’s been a while. I’m back, though!

Here are some of the “Things I Saw That I Loved” from this week. I hope you enjoy my favorite picks of this past week, and maybe find some blogs that YOU will love too. Let me know if you find some new blog loves! (PS: I’ve included links back to the original blog posts, and I’ve also pinned them on Pinterest for you so they are easy to find/repin.)

Summer-embroidery-hoop-art-Crafts-Unleashed

How fun is this easy little craft from Crafts Unleashed? I LOVE the fabric on the embroidery hoop and never would have thought to do that – I think it just makes the whole project!

Pom-Pom-Pillow

This Pom Pom Pillow just looks like something that needs to be in my life, right now. PLUS, this Dena character is a laugh a minute (I mean, with a blog called Hearts & Sharts, how could she not be?!). Go read her. Now!

Retro-Camper-Embroidery-Hoop-Art-with-Free-Pattern

Flamingo Toes has been KILLING IT lately. I love everything she is putting up. So much so, that 2 of the Things I Saw That I Loved are from her blog. Yeah, you read that right. TWO. Also, I’m obviously having a love affair with pom poms.

Huge-Fabric-US-Map-Hoop-Art

I mean, if you don’t think this is adorable, I don’t want to know you. It looks like a ton of work, but the payoff is awesome! Great way to blow through some fabric scraps – and I know we all have those.

Sewing Machine Cover

A few years ago, during an impromptu craft night with the girls, I made a sewing machine cover. It does the trick and looks cute, but not like this one does. Plus, if you spill wine (or vodka, whatever) on this one – it wipes right off. Not that I know from experience or anything. Maddie Moes hit this one out of the park!

Fabric Dilemma: Reupholstering Furniture

When we sold my grandparent’s house a few months ago, I was given a very nice couch, chair and a half, and ottoman. Great, right? Well, they are in perfect shape – but they are WHITE. We can’t have white things in this house! My dogs are black and brown and they shed like crazy – so for obvious reasons, white is not going to work for furniture. I’ve been looking into having them reupholstered in the near future.

Problem: I’m stuck on fabric choices. I have a basic idea of what I want, but for some reason I just cannot make a decision! Here are some pictures for reference:

Couch Before | Queen of Everything Chair Before | Queen of Everything

Here are the lovely white couch/chair/ottoman items. Please excuse the deer head and the duster – these were taken at my grandparent’s house while moving!

So – I was thinking a gray for the couch with a small pattern, and something fun for the chair and ottoman. I’m loving the gray/chartreuse/plum color combo, as you can tell from my favorite chairs in the whole wide world:

Here are some of my top choices for the couch, along with links if you are interested! I think I have a pretty clear winner, but I’m not 100% sure yet.
