About the Queen

Hi y’all! No, I’m not saying that to be cute, I’m from Texas and that’s really how I talk.

I’m Heather, and I have an extremely short attention span when it comes to crafting/DIYing. I’m not a perfectionist, and I get really frustrated when things don’t work the way they’re supposed to! I am also a huge procrastinator. Like, I’ve been putting off cleaning up my craft room (yes, I’m lucky, I have one – one of the bonuses to not having kids) for 2-3 months… and just really started on it this weekend. Yeah. It’s bad. I’m hoping that this blog will light a fire under my butt and turn me into a responsible blogger type person! My friends have given me the nickname “The Honey Badger of Crafting” because they think it is just hilarious that I basically throw a temper tantrum when I get sucked into a time-intensive project (as I am wont to do). In fact, the nickname came about when I was working on this project:

It has been three years and I still can’t talk about that tree skirt. I love it, but NEVER AGAIN!

I came up with this blog name because heather.com was already taken. Well, seriously, my internet “nickname”, for lack of a better word, has had something to do with a tiara/queen for as long as I can remember, stemming from a book called Kiss My Tiara: How to Rule the World as a SmartMouth Goddess that a friend gave me back in 2001. (Great book, by the way!). So, naturally, I had to have something along those lines – and since I do a little bit of everything, I think I picked a winner with Queen of Everything. Oh yeah, I also love Mary Engelbreit’s old “Queen of the Kitchen” line. Don’t hate.

I’ve been blogging in some capacity since before it was cool. Most recently, I was one of the Real {Cheap} Housewives of Texas, but that blog imploded. Group blogs are rarely a good idea, unfortunately! However, it taught me a lot and allowed me to meet some wonderful bloggers that I now call friends (real life, even!).

I’ve been married to Kevin for a little over nine years, and we’ve been together since 1997. Crazy. He is jealous of my power tools (shout out Ryobi!) and I don’t let him use them unless he asks for permission. He currently works at a fabric store, so I enjoy the discount that I get because of it!

We are parents to two completely spoiled dogs – Booda and Oliver. Booda is 11, and Oliver   is 3. We (sadly) talk more to the dogs than to each other some days. True story.

We also have two nephews, courtesy of my sister. Luckily, we live very close to almost all of my family, so we spend a lot of time together. Logan is 6, and Benjamin is 7 months. Logan’s current hobbies involve Wii, his new Kindle Fire, any cell phone he can get ahold of, and Netflix. Do you sense a theme there? He does like to craft with me, so I’ll take that as long as he will let me! Benjamin’s hobbies are drooling, eating everything he can get his hands on, not sleeping, and being adorable. He’s pretty good at all of those things. I love those boys like they are my own!

This past summer, I made a huge life change and switched jobs. I had previously worked for a Texas-based jewelry company (if you think really hard and/or google it, you’ll figure it out) for 18 years – and I left. I was offered a job with another company, and I LOVE it. I get to work with craft supplies every day, and I can generally get away with saying that window shopping  online for craft stuff is “work-related”. I will just say that working in a retail store and then going to work in a corporate office is crazy – and I will also highly suggest that you check out Tuesday Morning for craft supplies – that’s all I’m going to say about that! I love my job and I love the people I get to work with. It was a scary move to make, but I have absolutely no regrets.

Anyway, that’s quite a bit more about me than I first intended to write! I’m an open book, so ask me anything. I look forward to entertaining you with my craft fails and amazing you with my craft wins. Or vice versa. Whichever.
